Size:              Picture 11 1/2” x 9 1/2”,.   

Condition:     Excellent

Frame:         18” x 15” The frame is modern, but the wood backing                       is original.

This bears the label of J.H.Chance, 78 London Street, Fitzroy Square, London.

   

A fine original watercolour of Mrs Blake, the wife of Major Blake, mother of Annie Rachael Caufield and great grandmother of Jim and Joan Thomas, according to an early note on the reverse.

 

Thomas Richmond was the son of the miniature painter Thomas Richmond Snr (1771-1837) and brother of George Richmond the portrait painter.


He mostly painted in Sheffield until he moved to London in 1833.


His principal clientele was the hunting fraternity.      


Between 1833 and  1860 he exhibited 51 portraits in London.     


He died in Windermere where he had an estate, but was buried in Brompton Cemetery, London.
