Chantry Fine Art Collection

Subject:  Portrait of The Rickett Family Children

Artist:  Frederick Fisher

Provenance:  see below

Date:    1854

Size:  painting 14” x 15” [glazed]  frame 20” x 21”

Condition:  Fine

Frame:   It is not the original frame.

Details:  Very little is known of this very competent artist, but it would appear that he lived at Addlestone in Surrey and exhibited a portrait there.

He may well have lived further west in his early career because this perfectly delightful watercolour of two children under a tree is signed and dated “F.Fisher, Clifton, 1854”.

A note on the reverse of the picture states that it came from the home of Colonel St.Vincent Ricketts (1806-1866) of Rose Cottage, Cheltenham.

It then passed through the hands of Sir Robert Ricketts, Bart., finally being sold by the important dealers Frost and Reed, 41 Bond Street, London, in 1960.

It seems certain that the children were members of the Ricketts family, and possibly,  because  of the precise dating, Colonel St.Vincent Rickett’s children or nieces.

The picture is in fine condition and is glazed. The frame is not original.

Size: portrait 14” x 15” (arched top).    Frame 20” x 21”
